By applying computer-aided translation tools, the costs are calculated according to the word count in the text, which, in its turn, is determined on the basis of a detailed analysis of the text to be translated. The word count is presented in a special file of analysis which indicates the number of the new words, as well as the number of 75%, 85%, 95% and 100% complying words. For example, if the biggest part of the text has already been previously translated and is available in the translation memory, the customer will have to pay accordingly less than for a document containing all new words and sentences.

The price for editing is calculated according to the total number of words in the text, which is determined by analyzing the file in one of the computer-aided translation programmes (for example, SDL TRADOS). As the editor reads the entire text, the price for editing does not depend on the number of repetitions in the document.

In case the customer provides the material only in an unchangeable format (for example, Adobe Reader) and it is only possible to add comments on the required changes to the document, the price for editing is calculated according to the actual number of the spent hours.

Translation fees differ depending on the text type. Legal and medical texts are more complicated, and an expert of the field must be involved in the translation process, therefore the fee for these types of texts is higher than for regular texts.

A different fee is applied also to software interface localization documents, because the phrases to be translated are often without any context, therefore the translator and editor need more time to identify the connection among interface elements, which is crucial for finding the correct translation. More attention must be paid to 100%compliances, because in different contexts their translation may differ.

The term for fulfilling the order is set according to the translator’s and editor’s average work speed. It is considered that during one working day, the translator can translate approximately 2000–2500 words, depending on the level of complexity of the text. Whereas, the editor can edit approximately 6000 words in one working day. In case the text is large and the translation is urgently needed, it can be divided among several translators, who then work simultaneously, so the work is done almost two times faster. To sum it up, in the event you have a text with 10 000 words, we will fulfill the order in about seven days.

Customers often wish to translate materials, which are not in Word format, for example, a text (txt) file or a file of a different format, where it is not possible to see the final text appearance and layout. In order to obtain the best result, the translator and editor must understand the context, therefore it is advisable for the customer to provide a file in the source language, where it is possible to see the text layout (for example, a file in PDF format or a file created in a layout design programme).

Not all separate words included in the sentences are counted as repetitions, even though they have been previously used and are available in the translation memory (otherwise also all prepositions, connectives, pronouns, particles and other words that occur often in any text, would be included; in such case it would not be considered as computer – aided – translation, but as machine translation, where a completely different price calculation method is applied). The programme considers the whole segment, ending with a full stop, a paragraph break mark or another separating character, as one unit to be analyzed. The programme analyzes, if the segment as such complies with previous translations and evaluates the compliance in percent. It can be 100%, if the entire segment repeats itself precisely, or it can be 80% and less if the segment differs (for example, a different word order, additional words or missing words). The optimal compliance value is 75%, above which the segment can be used repeatedly. In case the value is lower, a lot of changes must be introduced to the segment, in which case it is easier to translate the segment anew. Therefore the programme does not even offer such segments.

Use of a term glossary and style guides in an enterprise’ s corporative texts (for example, in promotional brochures, product catalogues or web site) and software helps to create and keep a unified language style and to ensure consistent and correct terminology. It is especially important if the enterprise takes care of its public image, which is greatly affected by a correct language use. The language style guides usually include instructions for the expression tone to be used in texts, representation of software interface elements, layout of headings, addressing the reader, use of inverted commas, as well as many other important suggestions.
